Summer Homework
Summer is a great time to get Corporate housework done… use the time when things are quiet to get all those little tasks done, before the autumn busy period starts in earnest.
What to do?
- General: De-clutter the office – all the junk that accumulates that really is just hoarding… throw it all out! If it hasn’t moved in a year – it has to go. Archiving time is a good secondary jobbie.
- Warehouse: Make it tidy… it should be tidy all the time, but use the quiet time to really get into the back corners and clear-out. Re-organise and re-categorise when things are slow… it’s hard to take down a shelving section when the trolleys and forklifts are going gangbusters (it’s not even safe).
- Painting: Paint dries quicker in the sun!
- Databases: Deadwood removal – process all the gone-aways and fill in all the blanks. The cure of RIRO (Rubbish In Rubbish-Out) is taking the time to clean up the records.
- Marketing: autumn rolls into winter – get the ground work done on the end of season marketing plans by plotting them all out now. Remember the 6Ps – Proper Planning Prevents Pretty Poor Performance!
- Holidays – strangely, use the quiet time to get staff out on annual leave. Those 20 days aren’t going to take themselves off – sending staff out now will have them back in time for… when you’re busy.
Cleaning house is rewarding, and a few days in casual wear getting dirty never hurt anyone. It also charges the batteries – a change is as good as a rest.
